It’s been quite a while since my daughter Shawna and I have scheduled a screening of “The Doctrine of Discovery: Unmasking the Domination Code,” (directed by Sheldon Wolfchild, Dakota), which is based on my research and my book Pagans in the Promised Land: Decoding the Doctrine of Discovery. This is an excellent time to further examine the patterns of domination that continue to manifest on a global scale. Our movie is about so much more than the relationship between Vatican papal bulls and U.S. federal Indian law and policy. It explains the fundamental elements of the mental world that has brought everyone to this crazy point in time. Traditional original (“Indigenous”) nations’ knowledge systems premised upon a Reverence for All LIfe Life have the potential to serve as an antidote to the domination code mindset and its resulting behaviors. It is our view that we have a sacred responsibility to ask questions and attempt to better understand what’s happening in the world, and our movies helps to facilitate that process.
